In his book Monsters &Magical Sticks: There’s No Such Thing as Hypnotherapy, Steven Heller said that there was no such thing as hypnotism.

All presenting problems and symptoms are metaphors that contain a story about what the problem really is. The therapist is responsible for creating metaphors that contain a story that contains possible solutions. Hypnosis is a metaphor inside a metaphor.
